The ´Boehmerland-Cechie´ is different. Very
different to be precise.
Its appearance is almost antique, yet so very dynamic
with original gas tanks and aluminium wheels.
The craziness surrounding this motorbike mirrors the state of mind of
its inventor, Albin Hugo Liebisch, who built this machines between 1923
and 1939 in the nothern part of Czechoslovakia.
Even 79 years ago, in 1925, neither laymen nor experts
believed their eyes when facing it the first time. ´Is this even
true?´, they may have asked.
The small scale production of Liebisch´s motorbike
is being compared in its expertise to the likes of Bugatti, not least
because of the obvious love for the smallest detail.
This comparison is however being drawn for another reason:
The resources for Liebisch´s various projects came directly out
of the pockets of the industrial giant and passionate Bugatti fan Alfred
Hielle, friend of the great Ettore himself.
The strechted Boehmerland three seater was the ´Voyager´
model. From 1925 onwards there was also the shorter ´Touring´
model. Both had the 600 ccm Liebisch OHV one cylinder motor. The stretched
version was also available with sidecar.
1939 saw the development of the ´peoples bike´
with its 350 ccm Liebisch two-stroke one cylinder motor.
Czechoslovakia was occupied by Germans in 1939. In the wake of this new
political order with its devastating consequences for the state economy,
Liebisch had to give up his fading dreams of expansion.
However, this may be the very reason why connoisseurs
today appreciate the ´Boehmerland´ as one of the top rarities
in the world of motorbikes ...
